Time Management Tips for Home-Based Entrepreneurs

One issue that I have been having lately is time management. Whether that’s due in part to not having a full grasp of entrepreneur life or if’s just squirrel syndrome. For me, time management has been the most problematic, especially with issues that working from the home can present.  Getting everything that needs to get done when there are increased distractions to contend with and juggling new responsibilities, can be tough. Below, you’ll discover some great time management hacks you can implement when you work at home.

Avoid multi-tasking. It’s common and quite easy to think that you can multi-task. Whether it’s trying to work on different projects at the same time or trying to work and prepare all the meals, multi-tasking can prove unfavorable to your productivity.

Instead, you’ll need to focus on just one task at a time. My go-to method is task batching. If you’re not familiar with task batching, it’s all about grouping similar tasks together to improve your productivity. When you focus on just one thing, it makes you far more productive than if you were to attempt to cross more than one thing off your list at a time.

Set realistic deadlines. A good time management tip when you’re working from home is to set realistic deadlines. You’ll want to compile a list of the most important tasks you need to complete that day. Then, work on them in order.

Set yourself a specific amount of time for each task. You’ll find this really helps to keep you focused on the task at hand. When you work to deadlines, it helps you to get more work done in a shorter time frame. This is because you’re much less likely to check things such as social media or maybe even emails when you know you only have a set amount of time to complete what you’re working on.

Use productivity tools. If you take a look online, you’ll find a lot of productivity tools available. Many of these are free to use and they help to boost productivity when working remotely. Task management tools are especially great for productivity. They enable you to keep in touch with the team, organize tasks, and see exactly what needs to be completed.

You can even find time management tools online. These enable you to better utilize your time, ensuring you get the most important tasks done first. If online tools or apps aren’t your thing, then practicing mindfulness will keep your head clear allowing you to focus on the task.

Don’t procrastinate. There are a lot of distractions when you’re working from home. Whether it’s the phone ringing, the temptation to check social media, or the television; it’s easy to procrastinate with so many distractions around you. So, set yourself up to succeed and give yourself time to accomplish all your tasks.

This is why it’s really important to work in a quiet space away from distractions, stay organized, and more importantly, stay focused.

Reward Yourself. If you’re working on a large project that involves many steps or processes remember to take a break or several breaks. Rewarding yourself after you’ve completed the task will not only motivate you to keep going, but it will keep you on the path of productivity.

Time management can be difficult when you’re working from home. However, the tips above can really help you to minimize the challenges it presents.
